Pomegranate is a traditional fruit
of the central Iranian area where it originates. It is also one
of the most ancient fruit trees to be domesticated and is known
to have been grown in the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. There is
no other fruit crop that has high pharmaceutical value compared
to that in pomegranate. It also has some cultural significance
in Iran; it signifies immortality, fertility, or productive
energy.
Pomegranate is a delicious fruit with many beneficial compounds.
Pomegranate has substances, such as poly phenols that have
antioxidant, anti-viral, and anti-tumor activity.
Pomegranate may also be helpful in maintaining healthy
cholesterol and triglyceride levels, and recent studies indicate
pomegranate has compounds that play a role in osteoarthritis and
prostate health.
Current research shows that pomegranate has an important benefit
for the cardiovascular system by helping to promote a healthy
blood pressure. There are many other health benefits for
consumption of pomegranate fruit.
